I am currently sitting in a hotel room in Knoxville, TN. It wasn't an easy journey here. We had to drive from Champaign, Il which is about 500 miles, or 9 hours in the car. Once we arrived at night it was too late to practice since the tennis center was closed. So we decided to get up early and hit on the courts before qualifying started. Again, when we arrived there were no courts available to practice on. So like responsible pro tennis players we decide to head to the gym so that we can work out before we get a chance to play tennis later that day. Little did we know, that once we arrived at the gym, we saw a sign for a dodgeball tournament. Yes i did not say that wrong, a DodgeBall tournament, just like the movie. Stephen, Prakash, Craig and I composed the 4, but we needed 6 to join the game. So we found the first two semi-athletic looking guys in the gym and recruited them for the team. Yes, like the movie, our team name was Average Joe's.
Things did not start great in round robin group. We lost the first game pretty quickly, actually it was very quickly. But we re-grouped, got our strategy down and 3 hours later we found ourselves in the finals after beating up a team dressed as 80's, Logger's and frat boys. I won't tell you how it ended badly and how we lost, but i will tell you that it was some of the most fun i have had in the longest time and it was a great pre-match routine that i hope i can do at every tournament from now on, and i am pretty sure that i am going to throw a dodgeball tournament when i get back to l.a. !!! So get training and remember if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.
